This year CJSC “SCR” brand train “Armenia” of Yerevan-Batumi-Yerevan route is going its first trip on June 15. The head of South Caucasian Railway Directorate of Passenger traffic Gagik Movsesyan announced this at a press conference on June 8, 2012.
“This year we managed to reduce the duration of journey up to 16 hours and 10 minutes. For comparison I note that in 2009 the train reached Batumi for 3 hours longer. Currently in Yerevan wagon-locomotive depot the repair of passenger cars of the train “Armenia” is completing. These cars completely correspond to the technical, hygienic and safety standards. The average repair of a wagon costs SCR 900 thousand drams”, - said the head of the Directorate.
According to him, the train will consist of up to 17 cars, which will serve up to 648 passengers. In case of corresponding orders VIP cars will be added to the train.
Gagik Movsesyan added that comparing to last year SCR pricing had not changes significantly: the price of a second-class ticket is about 10 thousand drams, a ticket to a simple coupe is 10 thousand drams and the tickets to a coupe with increased comfort is 16 thousand drams. The head of the Directorate also informed that compared to last year the tickets for wagon-lit would fell by 10%: this year it cost 24 thousand drams.
Among the innovations of this season Gagik Movsesian stressed the start of online ticket sales, which would function on June 12-13, and the opening of wagon buffet in the train. The head of the Directorate reminded that in summer 2011 about 42.5 thousand people had been passengers of brand train "Armenia", and in 2012 that index was planned to raise up to 50 thousand passengers.
"This year we will continue to provide our services of transit trips to passengers to Black Sea resorts such as Sochi. Last year, we first offered our customers a similar service, which was quite demanded , "- he said.
Besides, as said the head of the Directorate, soon the Armenian passengers would be able to buy tickets for Russian Railways trains through special terminals that would be installed at the station "Yerevan".
Due to Gagik Movsesyan from 1 July a train will start running to a popular holiday destination – Lake Sevan. The train will run daily (except Wednesday) and will depart from platform “Almast” in Yerevan. On weekdays the train will run up to Tsovagyukh village and on weekends up to Shorzha. SCR assigns a train to Shorzha every summer for a more comfortable journey as well as to discharge Yerevan-Sevan route.
